The Discovery School Curriculum is the result of many years of dedication and hard work and evolves from one year to the next. Built on our long-standing philosophical commitment to providing active experiences and learning through play, our curriculum design and resources lay an excellent foundation for learning. Skills and materials are sequential, as well as developmental and age appropriate. Within each topic, teachers choose specific activities to exemplify a concept, taking into consideration the needs and readiness |

teaching style. Activities for each topic are integrated across the curriculum to include: basic vocabulary and language enrichment, creative art projects, songs and finger plays, field trips or special guests, related books and tapes, cooking projects, math and literacy challenges, science/discovery explorations and fine and gross motor activities. Our curriculum resources include a school library, teacher resource library, picture file, audio/visual materials, folder games, Topic Boxes (collections of related props and special materials) and computer software for the older age groups. We draw instructional elements from the Math Their Way and Handwriting Without Tears programs. Materials are continually reviewed to assure the continuity and diversity of the curriculum resources. Staff periodically reviews other curricula, TEKS objectives and other standards to ensure that our objectives align with those of the programs to which our students will matriculate. |
